Summer solstice

A prayer to say when you celebrate the summer solstice, for me this is when I truly know summer is here. I’m thankful for the beautiful long days, sun and the excitement of summer.

I feel grateful, happy and excited anticipation for what the summer will bring. Recently I’ve been thinking about the times I backed around various countries, in particular between the ages of 18 to 21. This was long before the internet was everywhere, when postcards and letters were my only way to contact people. I used a guide book or I arrived at my destination and I had to look for accommodation. Today it is so easy to prebook a hostel, train or bus ticket online and get everything instantly. However this is great in so many ways, it does take away the unknown and the adventure.

It takes away the sharing of knowledge, asking others where did you go, what did you see? We spend so much time buried i our phones, I’m guilty of this. It has been great to read, an English speaking paper, a magazine and my book.

I loved those years, I can truly say travel, I’ve written about this a few times on my blog, lights up my soul. The discussions you have, the people you meet, the freedom to go wherever, seeing places of beauty, sleeping in tree huts, climbing mountain Olympus to see the eternal flame. Oh and meeting some quirky people.. I intend to do this all my life, and it’s this time of year and being in Spain which reminds me of those times.

You can use this pray to let go of what no longer serves you, bring in what you most cherish and celebrate during the longest day.
