Self love; praise yourself everyday

Self care

Take yourself on a date, treat yourself  for achieving something today this for me is all part of self-care and self-love 💕.

It is so important to incorporate self care as part of your daily activities. For example we all brush our teeth everyday, wash, and eat, all without thinking really, yet self care is often overlooked. Include one or more of these examples even if it’s for 5 minutes daily.

  • paint your nails
  • Read a chapter of your book
  • Meditating
  • Write in your journal 3 things you are grateful for
  • buy a coffee
  • Go for a short walk
  • Exercise
  • Colour in an Adult colouring book
  • Put on a face mask
  • Watch a film or your favourite comedian
  • Talk to a friend rather than text
  • Dance in your room to your favourite music
  • Have a lovely bath with oils, rock salt
  • Make your own body scrubs, and indulge yourself when you shower
  • buy flowers for yourself

You get the idea!

It’s hard, I know this. Graves’ disease (autoimmune condition) and associated anxiety and my PTSD have been bad, today I had to cancel an appointment due to really bad chest pains and anxiety.  I was really panicking and all I wanted to do was hide and stay in bed.  The chest pains, and the heavy pressure I get can be really bad, it feels like someone is sitting on my chest.

I pushed myself and I got up, showered and washed my hair. You may think, wow I do this everyday. I used to do this everyday without thinking. However ever since I have been ill it has been hard to do simple things somedays due to total exhaustion.

However today after i got up, I put on some Reiki meditation music, I completed an online course I need to do and I asked my son to post 2 leaflets about my reiki healing to a charity I contacted. I’m pleased with what I have achieved so far, this is the point of this exercise. Self care is so important especially during these busy, stressful times. Praising yourself for little achievements helps improve your mood and can ease anxiety. It gives you a sense of accomplishment.

We wouldn’t berate or speak to our family and friends this way so why speak to yourself this way? For me acknowledging the small achievements and treating myself by reading a book is all part of managing my health and is an act of self love and care.

Give it a go and see if your mood improves
